Respectful Communication

The RIE/Pickler methodology encourages respectful and meaningful interactions between teachers and infants. Teachers continuously communicate intentions and outcomes to children, in order to foster their feelings of trust and independence. By thoughtful listening and through respectful verbal and physical cues, teachers intend to create an atmosphere where each child feels secure, autonomous, competent, and authentic. Because of this trusting relationship, children are given the space and time to master their own skills, and to learn and grow in a positive and encouraging environment.

Philosophy and Mission Statement

Choosing child care for your infant or toddler is one of the most important decisions families will make. My mission is to provide all children in our care with a safe, loving, and high quality learning environment.

I strongly believe in the diversity of every child’s learning style, and, therefore, in a continuous need for adjustment of teaching techniques based on adaptations to individual needs of each child depending on their own unique learning style & interests. Our 50% teacher directed, and 50% child initiated curriculum provides children with opportunity for exploration, promotes higher-order thinking and discoveries through play, and helps children develop self-esteem, independence, and critical thinking skills.

Developing a curriculum around child interests fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn. One way to take learning in a direction relevant to child's interest is to observe them through their everyday playtime activities, and use this as a guide when generating ideas and setting goals for child care program.

When the voice of each child is heard, an environment evolves where children feel free to express themselves. Children have greater respect for their teachers, their peers, and the lessons presented when they feel safe and sure of what is expected of them. In setting fair and consistent rules initially, and stating the importance of every activity, children are shown respect for their presence and time. In turn they learn to respect themselves, others, and their environment. I believe that:

  • Children deserve quality care and are entitled to a warm, responsive environment where caregivers are sensitive to their development and immediate needs.
  • I believe in providing unrestricted learning opportunities for children where they can freely develop at their own pace while transforming, creating, engineering and designing environment around them, problem solving through play and social interactions.
  • Children should be encouraged to make decisions and take responsibility for their actions.

For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes is to instill a love of learning in children, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals like myself who are excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for children to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be the best educator that I can be. I would welcome the opportunity to introduce your children to a world full of endless possiblities, love, and encouragement, and help them sprout into a  life-long learners who will one day shape, influence, and determine the future ahead of us with confidence and enthusiasm.
